new Merging Rules

New Merging Rules on WA Freeways April 2016

New Merging Rules on Perth’s Freeways

Perth drivers are forced to learn major changes to road rules on WA’s freeways. Newly introduced merge lines on freeways mean that entering cars must now give way to flowing freeway traffic. New merging rules can create unwanted accidents before Perth public learns and adjusts to the changes. Arguably, enforcement of new traffic rules can be a very lengthy process and a recipe for a new wave of freeway accidents.

WA drivers, in general, don’t have a satisfactory reputation when it comes to merging. Some drivers try to overtake learner drivers relentlessly, sometimes at any price. Very stupid behaviour. The State Government reports that new merging rules are designed to prevent accidents while professionals in the driver education industry believe that we will have an increase of rear collision cases and more dense congestion as a result.

To achieve fewer accidents at merge points, the State Government needs to allocate more funds for educational advertisements shown on TV and through road signage as well as social media. Reportedly, they spent 8.5 million dollars on new configurations and painting, at 70 different locations in Perth, but not many motorists even know about changes.

If one-third of this amount of money is spent on educating, this project wouldn’t even be necessary. In driver training industry, most diving instructors travel 1000 kilometres per week on average. We see more narrow misses on Perth roads than most other commuting public, and more importantly, we know why. The State Government and Department of Transport should do a survey and ask us for a valuable opinion. Some would say, “Driver trainers association WA” should be working towards better recognition and be heard in regards to this matter.

At the end of the day, we teach new generations all about roads and traffic. Who better to ask for the opinion, maybe those leaving their cars at the train station. Anyone who wants to book a Freeway Driving Lesson and be introduced to new merging rules, we are more than happy to help. We have two decades of teaching experience, multiple classes of driver’s licenses and millions of kilometres behind us. CHECK AVAILABILITY (book online)
